Forget Trump's flailing — Iran's the one without an endgame - Asia Times
Much has been written about President Donald Trump’s alleged lack of clearly defined goals and strategic objectives in the war with Iran. But the more

Iran has no endgame. They are absolutely fine with being bombed to hell, so long as the Mullahs and Ayatollahs stay in power. To them, that is VICTORY. We have seen this time and again in Middle East conflicts. In other words, we can win militarily, but come out of it having accomplished very little of substance while they claim victory and rally the troops. As a result, there are really on 2 ways to succeed in Iran: (1) Absolutely DESTROY the entire country in order to either (i) bring the leaders to their knees or (ii) wipe them completely off the face of the earth and install a friendly regime (subsidized by out tax dollars; or (2) Enter into some sort of mutually acceptable agreement.
The problem with Option 1 above is that it will take time an cost us a LOT of money, both directly and indirectly. The problem with Option 2 is that (1) we leave the murderous scum who murder their own citizens in massive numbers in power; (2) Middle East leaders, especially in Iran, are notoriously unreliable; and (3) Iran hates us. Thus, the clear choice seems to be that we should, morally, wipe them off the face of the earth, take their oil, and make them a U.S. territory. But, we really do not need the expense and high cost of occupying a hostile country. Therefore, we must have some sort of negotiated settlement.
Any settlement must, at a minimum, include (1) no nuclear weapons programs of any kind; and (2) surrender ALL nuclear fissile material to the U.S. Obviously, not shooting at ships in the Straits is required. Here's the biggie: Iran MUST be made to feel some degree of humiliation. This is important in the Arab world. Without some degree of humiliation they are not defeated. I propose making them agree to pay a 5% tax on all of their oil exports to the USA to compensate us for all the munitions we used to bomb them. They will, of course, balk at this initially. This is when we start blasting their power grid, water supply, etc... We tell them that in addition to them having to pay for repairs to these systems to maintain their country, they will owes us that much more money (for prolonged bombing) when they eventually agree.
You have to know who you are dealing with on the other side. You cannot treat your adversary as an equal. They are not an equal. If you treat your adversary as an equal when you are beating the heck out of him on the battlefield, then try to treat him as an equal at the negotiating table, YOU are morally in the wrong and are committing gross malfeasance both militarily and politically. In the Arab world, which is Fred Flintstone Land in reality, they defeated party MUST TASTE HUMILIATION. We don't have to shove their faces in it. But they must taste some degree of humiliation. It is the only way to keep them from claiming victory when we stop blasting them.
