Fix it, please.

I have had several threads merged because the search function did not show me any similar threads to the one I was creating. I've even entered the terms in a number of variations. It only shows five results, which isn't helpful if you're looking to avoid creating a duplicate. I don't think it is reasonable to make members of this forum search through multiple pages of threads manually to see if their thread is a duplicate.

Kindly,

TK

If it's something that just happened (say within 12 hr) then Active Topics is your friend. Check there first.

Thing is if someone you have on ignore posts a thread there you won't see it but 87% of the time it's GTG.

The normal search function usually works OK if you don't try to get cute with the title and just plug in the title header of the link you should be referencing in your post the first place. Even the ignored show up then.

In fact the USMB has one of the better search functions I've run across....Most sites may as well have a potato as something you click on for all the good they are.

Hope this helps....I fuckin' hate dupes, both seeing them and creating them.

If anything they should rename What's New to something else as it's just a rehash of old-ass posts with some new ones sprinkled in.

I mean look at the first thread there.....Some 9-month old 24 page post.

Maybe Old-Ass Posts would be more descriptive. ;)

Highly dependent on key wording.................I've found that out.

Key words make it or break it.

The issue is members using "cute" titles to get attention.
The feature for seeing if a topic has already been posted should take into consideration 'cute' titles referenced in the thread topic.

Keyword settings.
