Like Pieces Of A Puzzle

A soul has four chances to find happiness
Like a piece of a puzzle only four sides will mesh
Scattered and strewn you will find everyone there
But to find the right pieces takes patience and care

Often you’ll pass the one meant just for you
As its hard to locate which one’s got the right hue
And sometimes a piece will be attached to another
Erroneously matched so you won’t even bother

Frustrations abound and hope will be weary
You try the wrong piece and end up all teary
There is only one way the pieces will fit
And to force them together just couldn’t be it

Time after time you try once anew
Only to find that there’s only a few
Who’ll merge with your soul and make it just right
Fill it with love and help it turn bright

The sad thing I know is that most people are blind
And time will run out if you don’t look and find
The pieces whose edges will fit with the style
To allow you to finish and bring you a smile.

So hurry and seek the piece meant just for you
Put it in place and make sure of its hue
Then look up to heaven and thank the one up above
That he gave you the chance to find your true love.

It’s dark because you are trying too hard.
Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly.
Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply.
Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.
I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig.
Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me.
When it comes to dying even. Nothing ponderous, or portentous, or emphatic.
No rhetoric, no tremolos,
no self conscious persona putting on its celebrated imitation of Christ or Little Nell.
And of course, no theology, no metaphysics.
Just the fact of dying and the fact of the clear light.
So throw away your baggage and go forward.
There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet,
trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair.
That’s why you must walk so lightly.
Lightly my darling,
on tiptoes and no luggage,
not even a sponge bag,
completely unencumbered.

~Aldous Huxley

“It was autumn, the springtime of death. Rain spattered the rotting leaves, and a wild wind wailed… Death was happy to be alive.”
