Academic superiority. They're the "smart people", everyone else only exists to serve them.
I spent 12 years working in an academic environment. You'd be surprised to know how many over-educated liberal professors with degrees plastered all over their walls, can barely function in the real world.
There was one that I remember. It was during the time when computers first came out. he unplugged the damned thing every evening, instead of turning it off via the power switch. Then he couldn't figure out why it didn't work when he turned it on the next morning.
I'd often have to go to his office because he had trouble inserting the floppy disk in the drive. He kept trying to put it in backwards.
The guy had a Master's Degree and diplomas all over the wall.
