New Pope, but an old chapel.....
May 10th, 1508 On this day Michelangelo received 500 gold coins from Pope Julius II to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He began work today.
The first time I was in the Sistine Chapel, the view of that magnificent ceiling was somewhat shrouded, dusty, a little dirty, and the details hard to see. When I saw it after a cleaning had been done, not only was its beauty clear, but so was it's message:
There are two gifts that God awarded to mankind:
1. Free will, hence the ability to do evil or good.
2. An intelligence that allow mankind to make decisions using that free will.
So God doesn't "allow" men to be evil......He alls us to make our own decision.....hence the permutation of acts in the world.
The first time I was in the Sistine Chapel, the ceiling was.....needing a cleaning, and the cape behind God was difficult to make out.
The next time, after the ceiling had been cleaned, something dramatic became evident.....
It isn't a cape behind God.....it is the human brain.
