We've been having some fun on the competition reality shows threads--Survivor, The Amazing Race--singing competitions, cooking competitions etc.

But a lot of folks seem to be caught up in the non-competition shows too.

So this thread is for discussion of:
--Duck Dynasty
--Wicked Tuna
--Ice Road Truckers,
--Deadliest Catch
--Storage Wars
--Pawn Shop
. . . .and many others.

Are you watching?

My hubby and I have watched Storage Wars often enough to get to know the people featured in it and I love Deadliest Catch just for the drama of what those guys go through to give us crab legs. And Ice Road Truckers also has the same kind of mystique.

The others I am aware of, and may have caugh a show or two, but am not that much of a fan.

Oh, and should the Kardashians be included here? (ducks)

American Pickers
Pawn Stars
Gold Rush
Deadliest Catch
Restaurant Impossible
Bar Rescue

Oh I forgot American Pickers. That's a biggie isn't it?

Haven't seen Bar Rescue or Gold Rush.

Do watch Restaurant Impossible every once in awhile if nothing else good is on.

I don't watch any that have been mentioned. I seldom watch Duck D. anymore. I do DVR then watch:

Millionaire Matchmaker

Million Dollar Listing

Shark Tank

The Profit

House Hunters International ( great locales and cinematography of new and old architectural homes and apartments in cities and countries and islands all over the world ) :eusa_clap:

You like the beautiful things and great architecture then huh AA? Does that extend to fashion? Don't miss the Project Runway etc. thread. :)

I watch Gold Rush for many reasons. The concept of these inexperienced rookies going to Alaska to mine for gold was interesting. It didn't take long to realize that their leader Todd Hoffman was and still is an absolute moron. They've added additional "teams" to the show and it is interesting to watch 18 or 19 year old Parker grow as a person and a miner. He can be a jerk at times, but he's a kid growing up. Parker moved to the Yukon to mine and brought in 1,039 ounces of gold. Idiot Todd went to South America and brought home 0 ounces.

My favorite is Alaska, the Last Frontier about the Kilcher family that are third generation homesteaders. It's nice clean fun without all the tough guy, foul mouthed stuff you see in other shows like Ice Road Truckers.

The one show that stretches credibility is Amish Mafia. That crap is totally made up.

Have to agree on Amish Mafia. No way that can be the real deal. If it was, they wouldn't let camera crews follow them around don't you think?

So Elliott Neese, the worst 'bad boy' captain of the crab fishing fleet on Deadliest Catch has been portrayed as a rather unpleasant person, not a team player, not always entirely ethical, and a villain of sorts. But last night he was shown as a hero as he risked his boat in shallow, rocky waters to rescue the crew of another fishing boat that had run into the rocks and was sinking.

I love Deadliest Catch. There is something about the impossible conditions under which those people work, the violence of the sea, and the constant danger doing one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

i catch Pawn Stars and American Pickers.....just to see some of the stuff they get....but thats it.....

Harry, do you believe the value they attach to that stuff? I have always wondered about "Storage Wars", how realistic the value is they place on things. Maybe I've had and gone to too many yard/garage sales and estate sales and just don't see the prices offered that they show on those reality shows.

well to me if you have something of value you dont go to a pawn shop, they are not going to give you what its worth....but on American pickers they pay what the seller wants so i dont know close to the actual value they are.....Antique roadshow i heard was conservative values....a woman had this little corner table one time made by a famous Boston furniture guy from the 1700's...in nice shape, the twins on the show were going crazy about it.....they put the value on this thing at about $50,000.00!!.....when she auctioned it off it sold for $210,000.00!!!.....this little tiny table......

On Storage Wars, I'd see constantly see evil Dave Hester rattle off stuff like "well, that's $1000 for the couch, $500 for the coffee table ... ", when I'd just gone furniture shopping and seen the same stuff selling brand new for half the price.

Biggest score there was Darrell's Mexican artwork, supposedly around $300k. Turns out it was the personal locker of the artist, Frank Guttierez, and Darrell got in touch with him and gave him back a lot of the stuff. So he got a lot less, but some good karma.

"Moonshiners" is all dramatization, no reality. Law enforcement of the states involved has said they're aware of the shows, and that no illegal alcohol is being produced for the shows.

"Call of the Wildman" is also staged, in that animals are placed ahead of time for Turtleman to catch.

I'll watch The Pickers sometimes, they're actually not far from me.

I get a kick out of Hoarders, and I can't miss a good ghost hunting show.

All the rest of that stuff, don't watch any of it. More times than not I can't find anything I want to watch out of 125 channels. That's when I plug in the laptop and watch youtube, or pop in a movie.

Duck Dynasty. I really like those guys. They make me laugh in a good way, not a sneering way.

I've really tried to get into Duck Dynasty since so many people, including some in our families, really enjoy it. But just couldn't do it. Not my cup of tea even though I can really appreciate the concept of the show.

I've probably watched all of them at least once though--or just glance in when hubby is watching something--and my favorites are still the adventure/danger shows like Deadliest Catch or Ice Road Truckers.

I also enjoy watching some of the ghost investigation shows too--especially when there isn't anything else of interest on.

I like Dual Survivor but now that Cody is gone..not sure I will continue with it. I liked him..bare feet and all.

I won't watch hoarders because it is gross...and I used to watch Pawn Stars but Chumley drives me nuts..and so does the guy that does all the buying...the look on his face when he hopes they will take him extremely low offer. He's a crook.

I do enjoy antique roadshow too.
