India – the land of temples & mythology. The country is known for its archaeological heritage and has always been promoted as a spiritual hub. But now the face and the entire perception of India are changing, slowly and gradually.
Since the advent of Make in India campaign, the Government of India wants to promote our country as a one stop destination for the travelers all over the world, and everything that may fall in between. For reaching that same goal, the government has taken many steps towards it.
To promote India as ‘Must Experience’ and ‘Must Revisit’ destination, the Narendra Modi government has come out with the draft of a new national tourism policy 2015. Moreover, what is amazing here is that many of the state governments have also started putting individual efforts to popularize the tourism sector, which is one of the biggest contributors to the GDP of our country.
The new policy offers a hike in ‘tourism products’, and the concrete roadmap to achieve that. It calls for putting tourism—currently a state subject—to the concurrent list to help the Centre play a significant role instead of being just a fund disbursing centre
It touches on many aspects like setting up :
- A volunteer force
- Policy for vintage cars
- Promoting separate boards for yoga, Ayurveda, heritage tourism, wellness
- Provide free Wi-Fi connectivity at tourist centres in India
The 50-page policy touches on all aspects, including on how to use the 25 million Indian diaspora. Also, the tourism ministry has sanctioned Rs 131 lakh for the development of four rural tourism sites.
India’s travel and tourism economy is poised to grow 7.5% in 2015 over last year, exceeding the 6.9% growth that the global forum has predicted for the South Asian region. It has potential to contribute 46 million jobs to the India economy by 2025. The kind of progress that tourism is showing, it definitely is one of the sectors to show an exponential growth in the Indian economy.
