While I'm aware that sex has always been sold, my view this that, not even counting internet pornography, explicit content is much more readily available to children today than it has been in the past:
As an example, Ellen DeGeneres promoted Nicki Minaj as a "role model" for young girls. And Nicki Minaj is known for her highly explicit songs, which manage to just barely skirt by the legal definition of pornography:
I think it's obvious that the companies marketing this type of music to children don't care about the well-being of children anymore than cigarette companies do (who are also known for marketing their products to children). They simply know that sex sells, and that selling sex to children is a source of profit.
