The Man came out in 1972.
I seen it as a young teen liked then and now. after rewatching it I am not sure if it was meant to come across for this but the film quality and sound gives it
feel of realism as if it was made by news film and sound.
Top quality actors on every character from James Earl Jones to Burgess Meridith. The film quality and sound might throw some off but it made it more real to me. I recommend it.

What a great movie. James Earl Jones as the Black Man who becomes president. I read the book as well. A great read.

I read the book, too. Way back when.

Never saw the movie.

And five years later;

“You are part of the Rebel Alliance, and a traitor. Take her away!”

You could argue that, this early on into Star Wars, perhaps Jones just hadn’t yet found the range he would come to define Vader with, but there’s something that’s still so interesting about the emotion in these lines. We rarely actually get to hear Vader so explicitly angry like he is here, let alone the snap he imbues that parting order with.
...

“When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master.”

Jones gives Vader a fascinating cadence at times, especially in A New Hope, his lines rising and falling in an intonation that really amplifies the inhuman nature of Vader as a figure. But it makes his emphases when encountering Obi-Wan again really interesting, too: there’s a calm arrogance to how he just quickly adds “Now I am the master” here.

My grandson was a huge Star Wars fan. His mother and I ordered him a custom topper for his graduation cap that had a figure of Darth Vader and that line! He had leukemia when he was 12 and the Make A Wish Foundation paid for a trip for him to Disney when he was 15 to go to the Disney Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel/experience when he finished chemo. There he got to play a First Order sympathizer and he hung out with the First Order Captain for three days and nights. I got to go along because his stepdad was deployed to the Middle East with the Air Force. We were in the test group for the cast to practice before it ever opened to the public.

He is now 19 and studying to be an electrician.
