The living wage

Let me explain something to the Liberal/Fascist/Communists:

None of your nanny state meddling ideas have ever worked.

How do you know? I guess that horrible roads, police, fire department, social security, Medicare, workplace safety, national forests are just sooooooo horrible that we must never have them.

Roads: Bad. Police: Corrupt. FireDepartment: Corrupt and inefficient. Social Security: Bankrupt. Medicare: Bankrupt. Workplace safety: Caused outsourcing of American jobs. National forests: Poor managed leading to massive forest fires.
Yup, great examples there, chief.

Well said Rabbi!

Yes....our national forests should have been turned over to loggers
Yes...Roads should be privately owned with tolls every three miles
Yes...Your house catches fire, you pull out your MasterCard and swipe it when the firemen show up
Yes... Workplace safety is just an annoyance

Thanks for agreeing with me. As someone who hsa done nothing but lived off government benefits his whole life your agreement with me on this is surprising. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.

You are on a roll Rabbi!

Next you can complain to the widows of 9-11 how corrupt and inefficient their spouses were

Why oh why do I get the feeling that you would first in line to cry if the police and/or firemen didn't save your sorry ass, you had no roads to drive on or got hurt at work with no repercussion. Heck, you're doing it already.

a fine indictment of conservatism and the war against the progress that was once made

roads: failing because of government waste and because of conservatives raging against 'socialism'

police: largely turn corrupt because the Dems want to waste money on everything but police in fire- at least where I live

fire dept: maybe yours. Ours suffers from lack of funding (the Dems again)

outsourcing: caused by incentivizing the exploitation of the working man, by the issuance of corporate carters, and by the Republicans putting business and corporate profits before people and refusing to hold this or any other nation to any ethical standards

National forests: another victim of government waste by both parties

OK.
I've reached my threshold of tolerance for your stupidity, ignorance, and lack of debate skills, JPukema.
Buh-bye.

Think you are a republican but I agree EXCEPT for National forests. Alot of my forestry friends have jobs because of it. Conservation is an important aspect of america. Such beautiful scenary that we must protect it. I went through Wyoming and Colorado and it was so beautiful. I thought "What would have happen if not for a Republican in 1900, Teddy Roosevelt, didn't step up and fight for our scenery."

And he was the leader of the progressive party leading for such communist reforms like:

-Social Insurance
-Women voting rights
- A constitutional amendment for the Income Tax

And the biggest kicker:

National Health Service!!!!

This aren't socialist ideas. These are great American ideas. Instead of having GOP death panels like the one that killed Mr. Prince in Arizona, everyone is covered.

infrastructure, police, fire, medic, are essential functions of government.

Social Security is a great idea in theory. In practice it sucks.
Workplace safety....Department of labor....should be a state function. National Forests are not a proper function of the federal government. The states should have jurisdiction AND discretion of land use within their borders.
The federal government is too large and has too much power.

This thread is beyond gay.........In 2007, the Democrat-led Congress and White House enacted legislation raising the minimum wage law, in steps, from $5.15 an hour to $7.25. For black teenagers, in 2007, unemployment was 26 percent; today it's over 50 percent. Overall unemployment is a little over 9 percent.

The k00ks can have this conversation and NEVER consider that productivity is part of it.......as if when you have a job, it doesnt matter at all. Almost invariably, the people on this thread with all their own theories on how the market works are not out there in the real world seeing........essentially, they dont know shit about shit.

In my world, I get paid to assess workers levels of productivity on the job. In my world........there can be enormous differences in worker productivity. My job is to eliminate workers who suck and I do so without a second thought. In the real world.........thats how it works. They dont want to work with me, they can go flip hamburgers or sit on their ass at home. No change of a dollar or two in their salaries was going to change the fact that they sucked. For me, its not theory like the marxist assholes on this thread who conveniently ignore the realities of how the market works. Thats why we have lawyers, doctors, administrators, teachers, janitors, burger flippers.................. and assholes who would prefer to have somebody else pay for them and sit home and listen to the fcukking MP3 player for 24 hours. Fcukkk them............buckle up your chinstrap and join the real world.

In 2001, I went to a new job after working 16 years with the same organization because it went belly up. Took a huge chance and also took a 50% cut in pay. Tried to make a splash in a new organization. Didnt work out. Busted my ass for that year trying to make it though. Thats life..........some people think shit is owed to them.........that they dont have to bust it to make it. Fcukkk them.

In my world, anybody can rise through the organization if they bust their ass.................anybody!!! Some however, choose to lower the bar and do just the minimum. Fcukkk them..........I dont feel sorry for them. THATS the real world s0ns............and why limpwristers cant be administrators.

What makes you think they'll do worse?

As I live in the hinterlands the nearest WALMARTS is over 40 miles away, therefore I seldom am in a WalMart.

Went to one on Black Friday and checked out prices for food.

A quick perusal of the things I typically buy leads me to suspect I'd save about 10% on my shopping needs if I shopped there.

That IS a significant savings.

Nearly $20 a month.

OTOH, if the existence of WALMARTS is also putting millions of workers out of work, I suspect that my savings (and everybody elses, too, combined) STILL DON'T undo the damages to society as a whole, that FREE TRADE has wrought on our economy.

Now I fully understand that WALMARTS isn't remotely the whole story on FREE TRADE, but my point here is that ONE STATISTIC does not an economy make.

Mainly because states are more susceptable to fluctuations in their internal economies. If you want to talk National Forests, what happens when a state is having a hard time balancing its budget and decides to sell off public land? Right now, money can be funneled from all states to protect vital lands in one state.
The whole is stronger than its individual parts

if people in a state want to sell lands in that state then it's no one's business but that of the states residents.

If you don't live in a state then you should have absolutely no say as to what is or isn't done in that state.

I'm of the mind that National forests should be left completely wild and that people should use the lands at their own risk no building roads or ranger stations or visitor centers just wilderness.

No proof the existence of WalMarts is putting "millions of workers" out of work. Any more than the existence of International Harvester put millions of farm workers out of work. Or IBM put millions of office workers out of work.
It's true but erroneous anyway.

In that case...we disagree

In my view we are not a bunch of united states we are THE UNITED STATES which relies on centralized government. That issue was settled almost 150 years ago
Our national forests and parks are our national treasures and their disposition should not be left up to the whims of individual states.
