In trade, the U.S. has, since WWII, been the victim of one-sided policies that allowed international goods to be sold in our markets, while they impose restrictions and penalties on U.S. goods, making them uncompetitive in their markets. They are starting to get the message.

Republicans see the U.S., somewhat reluctantly, as the "policeman" of the civilized world, since the U.N. has become nothing more than a polite debate society where some of the world's most evil actors (Russia, China, Iran) have an effective "veto" of actions they don't like. In this role, it is sometimes necessary to take strong, belligerent actions internationally to prevent or counter sovereign aggressors, even when such actions do not directly or imminently benefit the United States. The current state of affairs combines legitimate concerns about Trump's aggressive actions with a neurotic hate for Trump himself and everything he does. As a result Democrats are running around as though their pants were on fire.

One can only hope (and expect) that success often brings about approval, if retroactively. If by, say, October, Iran has calmed down and is working toward an acceptable regime change, all will be forgiven and forgotten.
