From the Washington Times;

WASHINGTON, October 12, 2013 — The Republican Party was born in the darkest days of the American Republic.

In the next few days it will die.

The Republican Party saved the Union and abolished slavery. The Republican Party stood against Franklin Roosevelt’s internment of Japanese Americans during World War II and against Jim Crow laws in the 50’s.

On a hot summer day, the most famous Republican of the Twentieth Century stood before one of the great icons of tyranny, and over the objection of his cowardly, country club Republican advisors, Ronald Reagan demanded, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

In 1975, Reagan told conservatives to raise a banner of bold colors, not pale pastels. Today’s Republican banner is the colorless banner of John Boehner’s freshly laundered white flag of surrender.

Kathy58, please link articles and only post a small portion of the article.

The Republican leadership in Washington was pushed into this fight. They did not like it. House Speaker John Boehner and Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor had already worked out a plan to surrender with style. The conservatives could even have another meaningless vote against Obamacare they could take back to the home folks.

True.

Republicans are as much victims of the TPM as the rest of the Nation.

I think the TP shakeup is a good thing. Entrenched politicians are not only furious, they are also frightened by the TP, which is a good thing. IMO. People can try to marginalize Ted Cruz, et al., using words like anarchists or Nazi's, but I hope they look beyond what Schumer and McCain are howling (both are sorry examples of our government, btw) and understand that this country can't keep going with $17 trillion in debt, D.C. not accounting for what it spends, and the IRS given unlimited power.
Ted Cruz forced Washington to face the American people and expose what it has tried so hard to hide; this country is in trouble and it's THEIR fault. I'll also argue that people who continue to re-elect establishment politicians without holding them accountable for their shenanigans, deserve a portion of the blame as well.

When I joined this forum, I was looking forward to lively debate and a sharing of ideas, but reading many of the posts, it seems many people here prefer to hurl insults instead. We need to quit eating our own and cumulatively point the finger at D.C.

I agree with you. the tea party is a very good thing. we need the change, we need the shake up. today, we are either black or white. and that is what is killing the nation. we need the introduction of a little grey. we need a different approach. the democrats had their the party movement in the 60's when the hippie movement infiltrated a very rigid and yes even conservative democratic party. it represented a very radical change to a set in stone philosophy. the tea party isn't what the media and the left make them out to be. they have a lot of very good progressive ideas

The GOP will destroy the Tea Party, Kathy.

Sorry to disturb your hopes.

The Demise of the Republican Party .

Yes, indeed. Future political contests will be between the Libertarians vs the Socialists (formerly the demopublicans).

The Republican Party was destroyed by FDR circa 1935.

Many Republicans voted for the social Insecurity Act.

There is NO difference between Bush II, McCain , Chris Christie and Obama.

Hopefully the NEW party will be known as The American Socialist Party so the voters know exactly who they are voting for.

.

There is no Republican Party. It's only "Liberal Lite".

Trouble is that which replaces it might easily be perverted to become even more oppressive than the current socialist regime.

It's gonna be a race to subjugate you, folks, so get used to it.

There is no socialist party and there is no libertarian party.

And nothing of significance of either side will appear again.

No one can prevent me from hoping our country can be salvaged. As I've said, we have got to stop politicians from diverting attention off their BS and hold them accountable for the mess we're in. They act like everything was hunky-dory before Cruz came along and he ruined it for everyone. NOT.
The TP is primarily made up of blue collar workers tired of watching their paychecks shrink to pay for gov't waste.

Ronald Reagan was one of the biggest deficit spenders this nation has ever seen. He left the nation terribly in debt - a fact that lead to the Bush 43 tax hikes and gave Clinton an opening.

Your party has completely ignored Reagan's real spending record. Research his extremely wasteful Star Wars project, and please try to get your facts from first hand policy analysis rather than Talk Radio, FOX, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc.

Gorby had far more to do with reforming the Soviets than Reagan. Reagan's Tear Down This Wall speech was specifically designed to help Gorby fight his domestic political opponents who were resisting the inevitable neoliberal reforms that Reagan/Thatcher were imposing on the West. Why do you think Time magazine (a center right publication in the 80s) named Gorby Man of The Year? Why do you think Gorby gave Nancy Reagan such a long embrace at Reagan's funeral? Why do you think Reagan and Gorby became so close by the end of Reagan's term - because Gorby was the great reformer that the west had been looking for. Problem is: you don't know any of this because you get all your historical facts from the Republican Party and its mass media sources.)

FYI: Boehner has already won. Obama is now begging for the spending levels of the CR, which reflect Republican spending levels, i.e., far less than what the Democrats want, and [wait for it] far less than the spending levels Bush had when the Republicans controlled congress. Had your party spent responsibly when it controlled the presidency, Senate and House than we would trust you.

At least try to stop repeating the same old Talk Radio talking points about Reagan. Go to the library. Do some policy research. Reagan was way more complicated than the cut and paste feel good bumper sticker bromides from his speeches. Be careful with the speeches of Washington politicians. Learn to question your Washington leaders more. We can't afford for you to be an unthinking cheerleader.

I see. So you fuckers will reach a compromise: The American Fascist Party? .

I hope not, but I know that libertarianism would cave immediately to the enticements of corporatism, because you guys are in it for yourselves only.

Keep hope your hope for a better America, for that is pure patriotism.

The TP is primarily made up of elderly white folks who lost the political and cultural wars of the sixties and seventies, see their demise approaching personally and jointly, and are raising one last hurrah before passing the veil.

Both sides like to talk about the "demise" of the other side when they think they have the upper hand, and it's never true.

First, it's obvious you didn't read the entire article. And second, Reagan is not the end all be all of the Republican party. I think busting up unions is a bad thing and he also had a significant part in the Iran-Contra scandal. As far as questioning politicians about their actions, I make it a point to call my reps on a weekly basis and the WH too. Funny thing, since the shutdown, the WH comment line, Reid and Pelosi's capital hill office's are closed but I've reached every republican rep I've called. For the record, I am an Independent voter and vote based on a candidates merits, not their party affiliation. Most Tea Party members do the same.

^ that. Also, their DC offices are staffed by Republican operatives last I heard because the teaparty originally weren't beholden/led around by big business like the Republicans are.
