It seems to me that the only use for him would be as a some sort of political prop for those low level types whose political endeavors/desires depended on him before others above them gave him the boot...and they have no place else to turn now, other than to try to return him to some posterboy status in order to fulfill their own hopes and dreams because that's just how irrelevent those people are now reaizing that they really are.
