I can't really comment on the population in general because I simply don't have contact with many people. That's my choice.
I can comment on the fact that the news reports about our state and local elected officials indicate that the quality of those officials has deteriorated over the years.

I’m in Havasu and it still feels like un-Californicated Arizona but Tucson, Phoenix are basically Los Angeles…Sad.

I'm happy that my representatives in the state legislature are all Republicans and didn't participate in the walkout. And if the Democrats would have stayed, I hope they would have behaved themselves and be respectful unlike what occurred when Trump recently addressed Congress.

I am on a cult de sac off of the road to nowhere in Apache County...east side of the state. Last year I was in Phoenix and I agree with your assessment.
Out here, we get some California people who buy land online. They never last long. (No they usually don't die, they just leave.) Honestly, I don't have much contact with people.
Recently I became involved with a situation concerning dog hoarding.... possibly dog fighting. That in itself has been disturbing.
What is more disturbing is the response, or lack of response, from local and state government.
I am ashamed of the way people are allowed to treat animals in Arizona. After this experience, I have a hard time mustering any respect at all for our elected officials. In my opinion, hanging would be better than they deserve.
