Zone1 Texas

For any of you who are believers (of any sort) take some time in church today to pray for those missing or passed in the area of Texas that experienced such terrible flooding last night.

Prayers for the missing, in hopes that they can be found alive. But prayers for the dead accomplish nothing if they weren't saved before they passed away. Even this sinner knows you only get one short life to make yourself right with God.

Hebrews 9:27.

I did me a prayer. Things should be smoothing out now.
How things "smooth out" for parents who have lost a child, or for friends and family trying to comfort those who have suffered this kind of loss.

Without getting political heads are going to roll when this thing is investigated. Those parents are going to be enraged and there is going to be hell to pay for their losses.

It shouldn't need to be said, but this is not the thread for politics or trolling.

is talking to the heavens the same as a prayer - for guidance. than giving up one's spirit.

jesus never taught to pray that time wasted is better utilized by being productive for the common good of all life than simply those of claimed similarities and autocratic beliefs. using these events for ulterior motivation.

were the heavens involved what are they praying for and surly not just for believers among the victims. of course the texas crowd has little sympathy for anyone than themselves - could an illegal immigrant been caught in the flood.

Floods happen quickly along with wildfires, tornadoes, and earthquakes.
In the middle of the night, no amount of warnings is going to save every life.
I sure as hell wouldn't hear the local tornado sirens during a thunderstorm in the middle of the night.
There is no way that anyone would've imagined or predicted the river rising 26ft in an hour.
Those people simply didn't stand a chance, as do many in natural disasters.
The blame game is pointless.

Texas is blaming the NWS. The left is blaming Trump for "key staff members" being gone from the NWS, but Trump didn't really fire them. He offered some of them early retirement incentives, which they took. So basically those "key members" said "Screw Trump. I'm outta here."

From CNN:

"The National Weather Service has been hard hit by personnel cuts under the Trump administration, but that may not have significantly affected the forecasts and warnings for this historic and deadly flooding.

The two Texas NWS offices most closely involved in forecasting and warning about the flooding on the Guadalupe River — Austin-San Antonio and San Angelo — are missing some key staff members, but still issued a slew of watches and warnings about the flood danger.

The question is whether the warnings reached who they needed to reach.

Tom Fahy, the legislative director for the NWS employees’ union, told CNN that while he believes the offices had “adequate staffing and resources,” the Austin-San Antonio office is missing a warning coordination meteorologist — a role that serves as a crucial, direct link between forecasters and emergency managers.

This vacancy in the Austin-San Antonio office, along with other key roles, were the result of early retirement incentives offered by the Trump administration to shrink the size of the federal government, a NOAA official told CNN."

Beleaguered Weather Service defends its forecasts as Texas officials point fingers over flood warnings

This is one time that you shouldn't be a jackass.
Boats also sink when overwhelmed with water.

Try not to be a sociopath on every thread.

- using the heavens for your callous, self centered attitude is nothing new. for believers.

The warning was issued 3 hours earlier. The camp had 3 hours to evacuate.

I did not live in that part of Texas, but another place that was often hit by floods. What I cannot yet understand is how people failed to heed the warnings. (I'm going on the premise that as we always were given a heads up, that these people had warnings, too.)

If a weather warning has no means of reaching those threatened the NWS might as well be shouting it into the wind.

Like I said.
No one would've predicted a 26ft rise in the river.
There is no one to blame.
I'm betting on a huge lawsuit involving $millions if not $billions in penalties and compensation.

is it only when believers face the devastation they daily wrought on wildlife and their destruction of garden earth - then they pray for themselves excluding those they have themselves purposely employed the same devastation ...

can not the heavens read the headlines as well what they are doing to their sabbath, creation to be kept holy - could it be, texas the prime example.

So, who do I sue if a tornado takes out my house with my family in the middle of the night?
God?

You can't litigate the unpredictable.

Chances are you would have received a tornado alert earlier, which is meant to save your life, not your house.

Global warming deniers wouldn't predict such heavy rainfall, even though it is now common all over the globe.

In the middle of the night, that warning would be missed.
Tornados don't just drop out of a clear blue sky. They are usually associated with severe storms which are carefully monitored and reported. If one has a radio or tv in their home the warnings are available to them. TV programs are interrupted by those warnings as well. A testament to their effectiveness is that very few people are injured or killed compared to previous times when no such warning systems existed.
