Let's deal with current criminal activity before we consider the old cliches about taxing the wealthy. The DOJ mysteriously dropped charges against the notorious scam artist, Bankman-Fried, who preyed on mom and pop investors with scam crypto currency investments. Why would that happen? It's alleged that Bankman-Fried donated more than 5 million dollars to the Biden presidential campaign.

How do you feel about the education and medical industries? Leave alone for capitalism to sort out or should government invest?

There is no constitutional authority given the central government to provide education or health care.

It would be in the public interest/welfare for the central government to use its data gathering ability to be able to provide useful statistics and information to the states and public schools--performance, standings, entrance requirements for various universities, ratings for various curriculum etc. If government had stayed out of education, higher education would still be affordable for pretty much everybody who wanted it without them having to go into serious debt.

The role of the central government in medicine should be strictly in the interest of public safety--requirement for proper labeling and accurate information of medical products coming into the country and/or transported across state lines. If the central government had stayed out of the medical business, health care would be a hell of lot more affordable for most people now.

We had the best school system in the entire world when there was no teacher's union and parents, teachers, administrators, all who lived in our community and school boards ran the schools. Teachers also had huge respect, school was a safe place for the kids, and it was the responsibility of the parents to feed, clothe, and otherwise provide for their children.

It was a product of social contract which is cooperation between free people to share a particular service. It was ordered by the people and made possible by capitalism. The government did not say "Thou shalt have a school and this is what the school will be and teach." Pretty much all the government did was help us have elections for the school board and provide the land for the school. There was a law on the books that children were required to go to school and the local government did enforce that.

Well yeah, the gov is a social contact, I guess you can dress it up that way. It’s still the government and education is still run by it because that’s what our people wanted and because there’s no way the free market would serve all in need. A similar argument can be made with medicine

You loved the permanent tax cuts Trump gave to corporations and the mega-rich, and probably every tax cut given them since Ronald Reagan. Your party has pushed SC Justices that allowed corporations and the mega-rich to corrupt our Republic by giving unlimited and hidden contributions to politicians through PACs (“Citizens United”) — yet you protest politicians’ “corruption”!

You complain about the federal budget never being balanced, but when somebody suggests “Tell Congress: Tax the ultra-rich” you leap to the defense of all the billionaire oligarchs saying “It’s not your money! Mind your own business!”

Well, to me this thread is all about addressing a serious problem of the nation. It is not about defending every rotten aspect or simple-minded ideological fetish of present day finance capitalism — which serves the rich above all. Criticism of our developing oligarchy of billionaires doesn’t mean support for communism either, you oaf.

Everyone should pay the same tax rate on every dollar of income

We should start going after illegal employers like we used to. This wasn't a problem before Reagan/Bush.

...But Reagan put an end to that. His 1986 amnesty program, combined with his aggressive war on organized labor (begun in 1981), in effect told both employers and non-citizens that there would be few penalties and many rewards to increasing the US labor pool (and thus driving down wages) with undocumented immigrants.

Why did Bush only raid 3?

Remember, people at our border aren't illegals. We want to take them in. That means making them legal citizens. And they'll fill the 10 million jobs that are open, and pay taxes.

The top 0.05% aren't our most productive. They are our richest and ripping us off. And Republcans like you provide them cover. You create the loopholes. You argue for them. And you vote for Republicans who serve them.

They are ripping us off. This loophole allows them to pay themselves with loans that they pay back at 4 or 5%. Meanwhile you pay a lot more than 5%
