Not bad:

The Scarlet Coat (1955), set during the American Revolution and featuring Cornel Wilde as Maj. John Boulton and Robert Douglas as Benedict Arnold;

cowriter/director John Huston’s The Red Badge of Courage (1951), based on Stephen Crane’s Civil War novel;

Best Director nominee Howard Hawks’ Best Picture-nominated biographical drama Sergeant York (1941), led by Best Actor winner Gary Cooper as World War I hero Alvin C. York;

Air Force (1943), another Hawks-directed film, this one set during World War II and led by John Garfield;

Hell to Eternity (1960), based on the true World War II experiences of Marine hero Guy Gabaldon (Jeffrey Hunter);

Men of the Fighting Lady (1954), a Korean War-set drama starring Van Johnson;

Purple Hearts (1984), led by Ken Wahl and Cheryl Ladd as a Navy surgeon and nurse who fall in love while serving in the Vietnam War;

Private Benjamin (1980), the popular comedy starring Best Actress nominee Goldie Hawn and Best Supporting Actress nominee Eileen Brennan.

Then, late-night this evening/early tomorrow morning, Best Actor winner Fredric March, Best Supporting Actor winner Harold Russell and Dana Andrews lead Best Director winner William Wyler’s Best Picture-winning 1946 drama The Best Years of Our Lives, which follows men readjusting to life back on the home front following World War II.

Why Private Benjamin is in there I have no idea. :dunno:

For military comic relief, I prefer Stripes.

I remember when I was in PLDC in the Army and there was a segment on our training about "character" and they used the life story of Alvin York as an example.

The guy was a highly religious man from Tennessee (I think) who was against war and killing and I don't remember what convinced him to go to war but he eventually relented and ended up killing a lot of Germans and I believe he single handedly had 50 or 100 of them surrender to him personally.

I do want to watch The Best Years of Our Lives someday.

I don't do cable. I do free streaming.

I did not know Midway (2019 film) was a film by Roland Emmerich. Though not his best, it probably ranks right up there with Independence Day, The Patriot and Stargate TBH.

TUBI has a lot of military films available for streaming right now. I just watched Midway for the first time the other day. Terrific battle scenes, phenomenal.

I saw that that IKE biopic with Tom Selleck is still available, watched that one a few weeks ago. Pretty good. So many to choose from, so little time to watch TEE VEE.

:lol:
