TARIFFS: Walmart's CFO signals that price hikes may be coming because of Donald Trump's tariffs.

No they don't! Dear leader told them differently. That's all they need to know!

Tariffs do raise domestic prices in the short run

But they also lead to reduced dependance on our biggest enemy, which is communist china

Depends on the widget. If there is no current plant or infrastructure for said widget it will take years to plan and build plants for widget. And then it still may not be profitable to make it here.

Not necessarily years in every case

Some widgets can be made in Thailand, India, or Vietnam, for instance

But hopefully others will be made in America again

It took years to harm our manufacturing base to the extent that we have

And it wont be fixed overnight

As long as we are trending up again and away from china thats a success

Making them in India, Thailand or Vietnam does not help the American labor force at all!

Lots of liberal whining and crying..... I'm sure the tariffs will cause some short term price hikes...

The short sighted Ness not to realize LONG TERM THIS IS GOOD FOR AMERICA IS a typical libtard
yes it is good for america and american business. the only price hikes will be on foreign goods sold in america, making american goods more competitive. Tariffs work for american businesses and employees.

the only short term price hikes will be on foreign products sold in the USA. Tariffs have zero affect on domestically produced products.

The Tariffs will increase prices and make demand chase products. Inflation!

They pay sales taxes....excise taxes...liquor and cigarettes taxes, and gasoline taxes, and in many instances they pay payroll tax monies in to the federal coffers, same with the 49% of Americans not paying federal income taxes, they just don't earn enough taxable income, to be income taxed, but they pay plenty of other federal, state, property, and local taxes.

But where a lot of taxes come from is their employers paying taxes on them with payroll tax match, and the employers paying federal income taxes on more earned taxable income of their companies through their employee labor producing more...
Numbnuts they pay federal taxes
So your claim that 49% don't pay taxes is bullshit.

Yep, this is what the Trump supporters voted for. Now we all have to suffer the consequences of higher prices. What do you think?

Now maybe wallyworld will stop importing cheap Chinese crap and putting American people out of work in the manufacturing sector.

Joe Biden continued and expanded Trump's tariffs on Chinese goods. I didn't see a single liberal here complaining about that.

But, oh, NOW you care about what a big business CFO says! Here are some other "impacts" of tariffs:

* They protect American workers from unfair foreign dirt-wage and/or heavily foreign-government-subsidized labor.

* They encourage and facilitate the creation of more American jobs in America.

* They bring in huge chunks of revenue to help fund the government.

Odd that in 2000 and 2004, leading Democrat presidential candidates campaigned for protective tariffs.

The EU and China impose stiff tariffs on a wide range of products, but somehow tariffs are bad for America.

Libs are shilling for china

Trump is working for America

That HUGE CHUNKS OF REVENUE,

Comes from us, the consumer....!!!!

The manufacturer paying the tariff gets the tariff tax back when the whole seller pays a higher cost for the product to the manufacturer.

The whole seller gets his money back for the higher price due to the tariff, by charging a higher price to the Retailer buying it.

The retailer paying the higher price due to the original tariff now charges a higher price for the tariffed product to the consumer, who is the final person who buys it....and the ONLY person who ends up paying for the HUGE globs of money that the govt makes in tariff tax revenues.....with no one to pass the tariff tax on to.....

It's us, that are affected, our wallets diminished, the government pockets with increased revenues.....paid for by us....a tax increase on us.

Strategic tariffs, can work to help our manufacturing companies that stayed here in the USA IF China is a huge competitor for the product...if the importing Whole seller doesn't just go to another foreign country to manufacture it like Vietnam or India etc, and brings the manufacturing home to the USA....

It's a BIG IF.....

And flat tariffs across the board, IS NOT STRATEGIC, tariffs....many of those products are no longer manufactured at all in the USA, so it would be all on our shoulders as consumers, for years before manufacturing is brought back, if ever, with no one benefiting but our federal government's increase in tariff tax revenue ultimately paid for by us.

Like everything else in the US shuffleboard economy and partial truths, the real picture is a little more complicated. Flood Of Chinese Goods Into North America Earns Mexico "Backdoor" Label | ZeroHedge
They can't ship the goods made in China to Mexico, and unload and reload in to a container shipment to the USA and call the merchandise, MADE IN MEXICO......as zero hedge implied with Trans-shipments.

What China has invested in, is building new factories in Mexico, where Mexican labor, makes their products....

Much like Toyota putting a factory in say, Alabama.... Toyota owns the factory, skips import fees and duties/tariffs fees and transportation costs from Japan, while using American labor....

That's the backdoor, so to say....but it is no different when foreigners putting factories in the United States...we let them....because the jobs are a benefit to Americans, and Mexico lets China build factories there, because the jobs, benefit the Mexican people.

This below explains it much better than I did!
