I suspect that the private text messages are being shared and aired to evoke a reaction from conservatives.

In the liberal hive mind, they all seem to assume that conservatives are equally hive-minded. Therefore, they assume that a successful attack against Tucker Carlson will simply wreck conservatives.

They seem unable and unwilling to accept that many conservatives simply don’t give a rat’s ass about what Tucker Carlson believes about Trump.
