One of the NASA astronauts trapped on the International Space Station said he believes Elon Musk’s claim that the Biden administration rejected the SpaceX CEO’s offer to help bring the team home.
Barry “Butch” Wilmore made the comment Tuesday during an in-orbit press conference with fellow castaway Sunita Williams nine months after their Boeing Starliner capsule malfunctioned and left the pair stuck on the ISS.
One questioner asked about Musk’s recent claim that former President Joe Biden had intentionally stalled their rescue for “political reasons.”
In an earlier question, Wilmore denied that politics had anything to do with the team’s delayed departure, but he seemed to shift his stance when answering the later question.
SpaceX launched a Crew Dragon capsule to rescue the pair last September, but after it docked at the space station, NASA opted to stall its return.
Musk, who donated $288 million to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that working with him to bring the astronauts back would have made Trump “look good” and that Biden “didn’t want the publicity” so close to the presidential election.

Comment:
I think that the Space Station should have a built-in escape capsule, maybe even two.
It would be like having a life raft on a ship.
Why haven't they done that?
Biden is a rotten SOB for playing politics with the lives of the stranded Astronauts.

They're not stranded

NASA Starliner astronaut: We were not ‘stranded’ for political reasons

NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore countered Elon Musk’s claims he was ‘stranded’ aboard the ISS by the Biden administration.

Elon Musk’s ISS astronaut ‘rescue’ claims

On February 20, former ISS commander Andreas Mogensen posted a clip from a Donald Trump and Elon Musk Fox interview on X. In that clip, Musk claimed the Starliner astronauts “were left up there for political reasons.”

Alongside the clip, Mogensen wrote: “What a lie. And from someone who complains about lack of honesty from the mainstream media.”

Mogensen wasn’t the only person confused by Musk’s comment. For months, space journalists have cautioned against hyperbolic claims that Starliner’s astronauts were “stranded” in space.

In a sorry exchange, Musk replied to Mogensen with a slur. He also claimed, without providing evidence, that he directly offered the Biden administration to return the astronauts months before, and they refused.

What do the astronauts themselves think? While they, understandably, may not share their full thoughts on the topic in the public sphere, they did have a few choice words to say.

During a live broadcast from the ISS on Tuesday, March 4, Butch Wilmore referred to Trump’s and Musk’s comments: “The words they said, well, that’s politics. I mean, that’s part of life. From my standpoint, politics has not played into this at all.”

There’s are always enough capacity to return all astronauts. Right now, the space station has a Dragon and a Soyuz docked that can return all astronauts home.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

As a dedicated Contrarian -- and using a much forgotten art here on this Chat site ---- Thinking :-

Suppose ( no more than that) one or both of these astronauts have information which dear corrupt NASA cannot afford to have disclosed, at any price ?

Regardless, it does seem that some sort of Deflection might apply here rather than just old fashioned stupidity .

Absolutely spot on .

Remind us how many astronauts have told of these types of incidents but waited until they had retired / were near death .
You had overlooked facts before depicting a Green one with only one very big eye

Naughty . Fake News

It's not really green. More of a light beige
