Yagoda was a narkom of NKVD since 1934 to 1936. That is after the Holodomor and before the Great purge.

The Ezhov's wife was famous (or more properly, infamous) for her not too wise behaving as a married woman. Their marriage was a formality for the most part. So, I doubt she had much sway over her husband.

Given the enthusiasm the left show for collectivism, I see it as very possible. Just look at the utter stupidity that has taken place in Seattle and Portland where a bunch of savages hold an entire city hostage.
