According to João Magueijo, of Imperial College London, and Niayesh Afshordi, of the University of Waterloo in Canada, propose that the speed of light at the birth of the universe was much higher than it is today. They have been working on this theory since the nineties and until recently have had no means to test to see if it holds true. Now they believe they have such means by looking for a specific value in the cosmic background radiation but it will only prove that science may be taking a step in the right direction and not completely eliminate the theory of inflation proposed by Stephen Hawking....

...In brief they believe that the heat of the initial universe was so high that light and matter moved at near infinite speeds prior to settling down to it's current constant thereby accounting for the near uniformity we see today.

The only ultimate scientific truth is manmade global warming, the rest of it: gravity, time, the speed of light is all fluff
 
Makes sense. Not through time, but it's still a constant through space.

If I'm not mistaken, the universe's expansion was faster in its infancy.

Science is observations. The Newtonian Laws were based on the best observations capable at that time. As our instruments improve so does our understanding of how things actually work. That's why scientists never speak about "truth". We don't know what is "truth". We make observations, which gives us facts, which we then use to improve on our theories of how the world works.

True and these fellows had not the abilities to experiment at the levels we do today...Observation is the first material covered when you take physics and do lab experiments..
