Southern Baptists once officially called for laws to allow abortion under such conditions as rape, incest, clear evidence of severe fetal deformity, and carefully ascertained evidence of the likelihood of damage to the emotional, mental, and physical health of the mother. Were they evil when they published that resolution in 1971 ?

All Protestant denominations have been led astray. So of course they have some demonically influenced teachings.

Yes.

What has changed SB policy wise?
Total Opposition to Abortion: The SBC now opposes abortion in nearly all cases, including those involving rape or incest, emphasizing adoption and other alternatives instead.

The southern Baptist Convention is the largest Protestant religion in the US. It's not just some small group on the fringe.
The point is that religion didn't change. The Bible didn't change. The change was a political union with republican party idealogues, and religious beliefs being usurped by political party beliefs.

And then Roe hit, and the left went "abortion for any reason whenever we want it, and then you wonder why there was a backlash.

And of course your title left out the part of "certain conditions"

OP title seems a little misleading. Personally I believe abortion should be a misdemeanor with no jail time. It's not virtuous to be forced to be virtuous. Better to live with the consequence of knowing a wrong was done.

Which part is misleading? The document is there to read.

That they supported abortion.
The following quote from their resolution shows they do support abortion. Perhaps not in all cases. You missed that part?

It sounds like they don't support it in MOST cases which was my point when I said the title of the OP is misleading.
Please site proof that most abortions have nothing to do with criteria listed in the resolution. Regardless of any proof you may or may not supply to the above query, the referenced document proves they did, in fact, support the right to an abortion, even if that support wasn't for all cases. I don't recall mentioning the percentage of cases they supported.

You're kidding, right?
