I drink a cup of coffee at my favourite café just about every day of the week. I'm retired, you know. What else should I do? Anyway, I am so used to my surroundings that I take everything for granted. But today I got hit right between the eyes with something that's always been there but I never took notice. Why it is there and why it is in English is a mystery to me but it has nothing to do with sex. 'Smashing' has always been British slang for good, great, outstanding.
