Every Nation Gets the Government They Deserve. Haines Johnson wrote Sleepwalking Through History about the shenanigans during Reagan's term, and how various things and perceptions changed how America changed it's definition of itself. It is kind of a precursor to how we got so fukked up and how we let this kind of manipulation divide us. Every 4 years we must choose between 2 diametrically opposed supposed popular parties and their current chosen figurehead, who lays out their latest fever dream of salvation. You have your Robin Hood/Big Rock Candy Mountain faction that promises treats for everyone and divine punishment for people that have more than they need. Then there's the everyone is a victim, no one is really bad, just misunderstood keeds element, and mo money and less law enforcement will fix that. Also, there is the usual God wants Merica to physically take over the world and turn it into Little Merica, because we have all these WMDs. Most factions have no issue at all with taxing the shit out of those that are still trying, and all of them are represented in the media by a self serving influence peddling corps of professionals. So there you are, no real choices, you just knee jerk your way and hope for the best, maybe thinking they know more than me. Oh boy, they do.

When I was a young man I did not pay much attention to politics because I was trying to make my way as best I could.....I voted but back then there was not a lot of difference between Ds and Rs.

When I was doing better for me and mine I paid a bit more attention to the dems who's only sole purpose was to take what was mine and give it to someone else and voted against them accordingly.

Now that I've reached my august years I see that the dems are totally batshit crazy so I vote against them at every opportunity but I know, deep down, that I'm just trying to stave off the inevitable and run out the clock at this point.

There is where you go terribly wrong , imho

Introduce the Deep State into the scenario and you have one small group retaining and increasing power and wealth by giving the Sheeple a theatre of life which is split very closely between what we popularly call Right and Left view points .
And then DS makes sure that directed Chaos deflects these grass munchers from the simple truth --- that they are always finally led along the path that the unelected Shepherd chooses .
That is , to the slaughter house .
