American exceptionalism is real. But should also be changed.
The United States did come about in a different way and achieved different heights because of that. There was no ancient culture to shape our nation as much as the American Revolution and the subsequent goal to create something free and new.
There is also a "frontier spirit" part to our culture. We built a nation from wilderness. Granted, we did it at the expense of the native populations. But we have a remaining spirit of that expansion that has been both a benefit and a curse.
But we also need to learn to mind our own business. We are suffering the consequences of our meddling in the affairs of sovereign states during the last century. This idea that "We know what is best for others" is part of the problem. The other part, and the worst, is that we spent decades shaping other nations for our own benefit, and not theirs.
