I actually did a business trip down Texas, where they didn't have laws at the time against texting and driving, and the lady I worked with those two days nearly gave me a heart attack.

People who ride their bikes cross country sometimes have to ride on highway shoulders. The only way I would ride a shoulder is if it is at least 6-8 feet wide with a rumble strip, that last part is important. Most cyclists don't have that luxury though, and there are plenty like this woman behind the wheel out there.
