I'd like to think in our Selfie universe that a nice concept/themes reading of Merchant of Venice (Shakespeare), induces a modern Western/American social media windows consciousness of college student life/competition culture/activity on some Saturday in Autumn for things like Duke-UNC athletics schools programs rivalry storytelling for a bridge-game between modernization of capitalism/consumerism 'ethos' and competition games theories of teams/towns/schools biases costumery-thinking for doubt.

That's what this Saturday AM post concerns. I might add some addendums here for Duke-UNC men's basketball '93 season-year showcases of its storied/reflective competition-class rivalry for social network culture thought of profiteer norms education/pardon.

In the cited Shakespeare-play, we find a wandering Euro-man trapped in an evil death-contract (debt) with a calculator-jitters Jewish Euro/Venice merchant (Shylock) who requires the society surrounding/concerning him to find a right-angel counselor for contract-evaluations for transcendence of profit/competition 'linked' social iniquity mentalism. Such a work reminds me why in our mod TV/media/Selfie age, we're so as a society fascinated/hypnotized by why a pronounced Duke men's athletics stand-out, JJ Redick, would opt to become a high-light pro-sports (Lakers) head-coach figurehead for things of competition's circulations of sociological contracts/customs thermal.

In the '93 season-year of cool men's college basketball storytelling, when pronounced superstar talents were already gone (drafted) from the '92 season-year into the NBA, Duke University sought more champion-laurel 'stuff' and quested to affirm its good-footing onto the TV-ground of its new-age 'cool' rivalry theater with cross-town school/program UNC, under the legend Coach-K. This '93 Duke-UNC standoff featured a 1-1 win/loss tradeoff showcase and highlighted why Duke's continuity-quests pared with UNC's emergence as Duke's 'cool' TV-rival of competition's profit-education thanks-giving (for all!).

I wondered what Shylock would make of such TV/media/networks time of Duke-UNC TV-rivalry talk for walkie-talkies and decided to cast myself in a Shakespearean storyboard about everyday-Selfie like 'consciousness' forwarding sanity, games, sports fan gear, teams/town biases, and overall society handshakes for contracts-intrigue and games-of-chance kinship (for the Ego). Would Shylock be a Blue-Devils or Tar-Heels fan (Facebook-like)?

I'd like to posit in this post that Shylock would have some comments for that '93 season-year 1-1 win/loss tradeoff theater for TV created by Duke-UNC lines of commercial/sportsmanship think. Would he talk of Bobby Hurley's youthful quest to keep Duke in the heat with a nucleus-commander position confidence; or would he talk about new-gen rising UNC program strong athletes seeking social/media/TV stamps for all things 'onside' in a school/program boasting in its ranks the legendary NBA-celeb Michal Jordan (go Nike)?

COMMENT: "Duke shocked me with its small-nucleus excellence in Carolina in '93."
COMMENT: "North Carolina had emerged to equal Duke's talk-of-distances in '93."
