Senate Leaders Announce Bipartisan Deal, Vote Now Goes to the House

Even honest Republicans are turning on their party and saying....What the fuck are you guys doing?

Shutting down the Government in a hopeless attempt to defund Obamacare was idiotic. The damage done to honest hardworking Americans is inexcusable

How about you talk for your own party and kindly not speak for mine?

Honestly

Do you support what the Republicans have done over the last month? Do you think it was worth it?

Yes.... this insanity has to stop... the insipid notion that the answer to debt is to take on more debt is beyond stupid.. it's borderline crazy. And the lies about default have been exposed.. debt service is 10% of what we take in every month. The only way we default is if Obama orders default... and if he does... he has breaks the law.

The left is like petulant, obese children with rotting teeth that demand even more candy.

If it results in eventual fiscal sanity coupled with a review of Obamacare sometime in the future, then yes.

Plus it got out in the open how miserable the Obama adminsitration can be, vis a vis, Shutdown Theatre.

Thats it?

You really think the cost of shutting down the Government leads to fiscal sanity? Do you really think that Republicans ruling from crisis to crisis is good government? Do you support your party cowering to TeaTards?

How about it USMB Republicans.....how proud are you of your party these days?

Better than meekly submitting to another round of spending what we don't have. And any attempt at at least delaying that bloated monstrosity called Obamacare is worthy in my book.

As for your Teatards quip, I'll place my intellect against yours any day of the week. Considering the overall lack of content in anything you post, I'm not worried about you.

I'm sorry

But anyone reading the agenda of that party and thinking "That is the group I want to belong to" is nothing but a TeaTard

TeaTards are just John Birch Society members with funny hats

Nice dodge from the challenge there Rightwinger. Its always the people with the snarky names that are the biggest dodgers and assholes.

But keep thinking progressive theory is the way to go, just go to Detroit and see how well that works.

First of all, the dems didn't want any cuts, and sequester was the result of forcing Obama to control 'his' caucus. The dems are still mad at Biden for giving too much in Obama's first term. Further, the dems had at least half the blame for there being a crisis.

In short, the dems don't do any cuts unless forced. It's true that Boehner couldn't even sell 2 or 3 dollars in cuts for 1 in revenue. However, perhaps this humilitation can bring about a bit more reason.

I was proud of them for a little while for taking a stand against the Democratic bullies.
I'm sick and tired of them always caving in to the Dem's.
Did you notice how President Obama & Reid never caved or gave in on the Health Care being delayed? They would not even go half way and offer up a negotiation to delay it for 6 months.
Yet when the Republicans do the same thing it's absolutely terrible.

I'm having a very hard time seeing how this could've went much better for the democrats given the circumstances. Maybe reform the Sequester cuts...but meh, if that's the sacrifice for the democrats then it's good enough for me.

Let's play the partisan hack game, okay?

Obama gets no one year debt extension. = lose

Obama gets no "clean" CR. = lose

The sequester cuts stay in effect. = lose

The income verification issue gets strengthened. = lose

Forces to Dems to negotiate = lose

Now, I'll play fair, because unlike you, I am not a partisan hack. Neither side got what they wanted. The standoff has hurt everyone. The abortion that is Obamacare still lives. Both sides lost. Anyone who says different is a fool.

So--in other words--the Republicans only forced the government to shut down over minor issues? They were never serious about defunding Obamacare?

If that was the case, why not just come out and say so--that would be a politically winning argument for them. Scaring us like that was not called for. Also, I don't think the government had to shutdown if you start talking about this a month earlier, most of the public would have been behind you now!!

No--No--you are trying to find a silverlining in an overt political ass whooping. The Tea Party were not able to accomplish their goals because there are too many moderates in the GOP who would rather cave than risk throwing the nation into an economic abyss. These so called "concessions" are face saving devices to help the moderates keep their seats in the next election cycle. Too bad that the Tea Party are now aiming at their seats in the primary, thus the moderates lost twice!

I guess it sucks to be a moderate in the Republican party these days--can't win, and can't win for losing!

More stupid nonsense. The only person saying the Republicans didn't want to defund Obamacare is you. You knocked that strawman down real good. Every other formulation you made is more nonsense...just your half-assed opinion with no basis in fact. I was fair in my assessment (i.e. neither side got what they wanted) but you engage in typical partisan hackery. Very sad :(

Other than demands.....name a single thing Republicans brought to the negotiating table

So they have agreed to kick the can down the road again well hell I'm impressed let's buy them all a beer and give them a raise for this brilliant example of problem solving and leadership.

The way they manhandled Veterans? The way they held a hundred tourists hostage in Yellowstone? The way they tried to shut down private enterprises for the crime of being located in a National Park?

The party of filth, the Tea Party, is going to pay for this.

it's so funny that Reid removed the GOP's face-saving repeal/delay of the Medical Device Tax...lol!

I can't believe Reid won by this huge margin, he's not giving the GOP anything!! I love it!

But the Republicans in the Senate put on a good show! Is it not time to get rid of Mitch McConnell who has decided to cave in and go along with the socialist party, and give Obama what he wants? May the both of them rot in hell.

"The mere chilling of a Constitutional right by a penalty [Obamacare's individual mandate] on its exercise is patently unconstitutional." Shapiro v. Thompson, 394 U.S. 618.

In your opinion. Of course, everyone's poll numbers in Washington are down. That is the objective truth...not opinion. Does that mean everyone is going to pay, or just the side you don't like?

With an electorate hostile towards Washington (rightfully so) everyone will pay

Some more than others

See: Mitch McConnell closes the deal. Again

Well, isn’t this special? Mitch McConnell has decided to cave in and go along with the socialist party, and give Obama exactly what he wants.

Does Congress and other federal big shots get to keep their outrageous Obamacare subsidy? Yes! Thank Mitch McConnell for that.

Does Obamacare’s individual mandate get delayed a year? Hell no! Thank Mitch McConnell for that!

Does the medical device tax get repealed? Not on your life. You can also thank Mitch McConnell for that too, and also thank his socialist republican trolls!

Does Obama get his credit card limit increased by almost another TRILLION DOLLARS which makes our nation’s younger generation nothing more than indentured tax slaves to a socialist government? You bet it does.

Mitch McConnell, you are a shameful disgrace to America and too cowardice to admit you are part of Washington’s socialist party.

Our federal government personifies a living creature, a predator: it grows, it multiplies, it protects itself, it feeds on those it can defeat, and does everything to expand its powers and flourish, even at the expense of enslaving a nation’s entire population.

Actually, Cruz and the House TP folks prevented any of that being debated and negotiated, because they bet the whole enchilada on Obama caving in and giving up his signature achievement, but Obama didn't and the choice was to take nothing or tank the economy, so McConnell chose preserving the gop's chances for 2014, and because of Cruz, this sucky deal was the best we were left with.

you're blaming the messenger, but that's a common theme to a lot of TPM posts, which is sad because it hurts conservatism.

You guys do realize all that has happened here is Congress has done what it always does grandstands and fucks around till the last minute then passes some two bit extension that pushes the problem down the road a few months so they can grandstand and fuck around till the last minute and do the same thing yet again. How many more years do we have to endure this same old song and dance from these inept assholes?

I understand your frustration, Blackhawk, but what other avenue do you propose the GOP to take? Starting now would hardly work, there's no pressure for the Dems to negotiate.

The only think I can think might turn the tables is when the populace begins to face the Obamacare realities after signing up and experiencing the problems inherent in the program. THEN, the people will look to the GOP for help.

To be clear my frustration is not just with Republicans it's with the whole dam bunch Republicans, Democrats the House and the Senate right on up to the President I'm sick of hearing from all of them we have to deal with our debt, with spending, with this and that and then never dealing with it. This is not something that started with Obama or Bush it's been going on since well before I was born it's the same garbage no matter which party is in charge and outside of a nation wide uprising against them I don't see anything changing that the only thing Congress and the President have managed to accomplish through all of this is making me more disgusted with all of them then I ever thought was possible.

Someone printed this earlier today.. Think it says it all...

The 545 People Responsible For All Of U.S. Woes

BY Charley Reese
March 7, 1995-- -- -

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 235 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.

I excluded all but the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.

No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislation's responsibility to determine how he votes.

A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY

Don't you see how the con game that is played on the people by the politicians? Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of Tip O'Neill, who stood up and criticized Ronald Reagan for creating deficits.

The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating appropriations and taxes.

O'neill is the speaker of the House. He is the leader of the majority party. He and his fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetos it, they can pass it over his veto.

REPLACE SCOUNDRELS

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 235 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.

I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.

When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in Lebanon, it's because they want them in Lebanon.

There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take it.

Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people and they alone are responsible. They and they alone have the power. They and they alone should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided they have the gumption to manage their own employees.
