I picked-up a really nice Savage 340A in .30-30 this morning. Very lightly used. I have $225.00 in it.

No way to put a year on it other than it's one of the earlier examples.

Made sometime between 1950 and 1960.

Plain black walnut stock, no sling swivels, Dockendorff rear sight, not tapped for a side mount. Tapped for a receiver sight. No serial.

DSCN5884.webp

I had a later one (blonde wood/pressed checkering) as a young man that came with a side mount/scope and it was a good shooter.

I was reloading at the time so it did double duty....110 gr spire points for groundhogs within 200 yards and 150gr spire points for deer. It worked fine for both.

The trigger on this one is better than I remember the other one being.

Looks like the BB guns that we had when I was little.

I go to a 409 CI message FB board..not that I am real into them.

I just like reading that kind of stuff.

You would not believe the things they come up.

Like telling a screw was left at 3-9 o'clock rather than 12-6...because it was the last run in FEB 66 by the serial number.

There is a 70s Chevy that has a bolt in a Vett motor for no other reason than to a be show piece.

It is unreal.

Did you put your eye out kid?
I was never given one. But I did shoot a friends gun once.

The only other gun I've ever shot was a rifle. Once.

I suppose I can understand the thrill behind hit. But it didn't "do" anything for me.

Sadly, I've lived all my life to this point without even thinking about needing a gun of any type.
Now, it's all I think about.....but I can't afford one.
