I picked this one up yesterday.

S&W made these revolvers for Brazil and the officers carried them during their participation in WW-2.

It bears the Brazilian Crest and 1937.

This one came with a very nice surprise, a very nice original US holster in fine condition. At first blush I just figured it was a very nice repro.

That and the serial pre-dates the known Brazilian contract serial range by a couple thousand. It's a late WW-1 revolver that was likely not finished yet and missed when S&W made post-war commercial revolvers of them.

Brazil fought in Italy on the ground and flew P-47s (ground support) in the air.

They had a cool patch....Smokin' Snakes.

Brazil in WWII

Brazil joined the Allies during World War II. The country officially declared war on the Axis powers, including Germany and Italy, on August 22, 1942. Brazil's decision to enter the war was influenced by repeated attacks by Axis submarines on its merchant shipping, which caused widespread outrage and public pressure for a formal declaration of war. Prior to this, Brazil had maintained a policy of strict neutrality, but the British naval blockade during the war effectively severed its major trade ties with Germany, forcing Brazil to seek new economic partnerships, particularly with the United States. In exchange for allowing the United States to establish military bases in northeastern Brazil, the U.S. provided economic incentives, including financing for a major steel mill, which helped solidify Brazil's alignment with the Allied cause. Brazil's contributions included hosting strategic air and naval bases crucial for the Battle of the Atlantic, providing vital natural resources, and deploying the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) to fight in the Italian Campaign, making it the only South American country to send combat troops overseas.
