There will be a day in the future when Europe will need to defend themselves. Will they have the men willing to die or the equipment purchased to deflect an invasion?

The chances may be slim but it is higher than 0%.

A Russian warship fired warning shots near a U.K.-registered pleasure yacht in the English Channel on Tuesday, authorities said, an incident that caused no damage but illustrated heightened tensions between the two countries.

Britain's defence ministry launched an investigation after the yacht reported being fired on by a Russian navy vessel about 20 nautical miles (37 kilometres) south of the Isle of Wight, outside U.K. territorial waters.

There were no reports of injuries or damage to the sailing yacht, which continued its journey from the U.K. toward France.

The BBC reported that the yacht, which has no motor, had drifted toward the Russian vessel in foggy conditions.

Did you read the linked article? It does not say what you said. It gives much more detail. Nothing really happened.

Putin has humiliated Britain in the Channel

Heads should roll and swords should be fallen on.
There must be more money for defence

Britain has now suffered the ultimate humiliation. A Russian warship in the English Channel has felt free to fire warning shots at a peaceful British-flagged yacht, and not only have we chosen to do nothing about it, we actually cannot do anything about it – thanks to the long, long running-down of our defences. The Government must now surely realise that it is time for a major increase in defence funding, as if the recent resignation of defence ministers John Healey and Al Carns had not been proof enough.
So what has happened?
A British-flagged yacht, so far unidentified, apparently passed near the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich this morning. For whatever reason the Russians fired a warning shot at the yacht. This incident took place around 20 nautical miles to the south of the Isle of Wight: technically outside the 12-mile limit defining British territorial waters, but very much in our maritime backyard – or indeed, in our actual maritime house.
When warships of enemy powers transit the Channel, it's normal practice for the Royal Navy to escort or shadow them. We now have so few combatant warships fit for sea that it has become routine to use unarmed minehunters or patrol vessels on this task, or similarly toothless ships of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary manned by civilian merchant seamen. This morning (Tuesday) the Grigorovich was being shadowed by HMS Mersey, a River-class patrol vessel of 1700 tons.
Batch 1 River-class ships like the Mersey are armed with a single light 20mm cannon and a pair of machine guns. In maritime terms this is like not being armed at all.
Grigorovich-class frigates (she is the name ship of her class) are small among warships at 4,000 tons, but unlike the River class they are warships, built and armed for combat.

Commentary:
The UK is financially, politically and morally bankrupt.
Recently, senior UK defense officials have repeatedly admitted that Britain lacks the personnel, ammunition, and logistical depth to sustain high-intensity combat for more than a few weeks.
They are worse off today than they were in 1939.

The yacht was on an intercept course. The Russians behaved as any warship would in similar circumstances radio communication, ship’s horn, and the boater did not acknowledge. A shot across the bow got their attention.
Total nothingburger.

Are you on drugs? The Russians fired flares as the yacht approached, then used small arms to fire shots across the bow when it approached within 150 meters.

English..do you UNDERSTAND IT!

Finland just changed its laws so that they can now develop or purchase nuclear weapons. The countries actually in range (Balkans, Poland, Nordics) are no longer dicking around with Russia.

A collision at sea can ruin your whole day.

Did you read the article? What exactly did the Russians do wrong? They were trying to prevent the pleasure yacht from approaching them at the risk of collision in poor weather. What else were they supposed to do? What would our ships do?

I can't quote the site because it requires my log in and I don't play that kind of horseshit to spam my email.
