As part of a hobby I have researched maps dating back to the late 1600's through about 1920 in Upstate NY. The maps from the late 1700's through the late 1800's were highly detailed with drawings of the buildings, homes, barns, taverns, schools, grist mills, etc. and frequently included peoples names. Its crazy how many 1 room schools there were many no bigger than my living room. George Washington marched his army along one road, most of it is a paved road today but there is still a section of the dirt road within the pine barrens. Nearby there was a revolutionary war battle in Saratoga. There was another revolutionary war battle in nearby Schoharie, NY and a revolutionary war cemetery.
