Not as well known as tel Aviv or Jerusalem but still important city. The history goes back to 1882 when Rothschilds of Paris Baron Edmond and his brother Alphonse bought the land from a Effendi, Arab landholder. a member of the al Dajani clan. They settled a colony of Jews from Czarist Ukraine who named the new settlement Rishon le Zion or first to Zion. They would not have survived if not for the farming experts the Rothschilds sent to help them. In time it became a city. There are still orange trees outside the city as reminder it was once agricultural settlement. Here is a walk down Rothschild street. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eolkQD29Lj0
