Do you remember the Beltway Sniper case? Washington was almost paralyzed with fear as people were randomly killed One man was driving a bus. One man was just putting gas in his car. No one could figure out who was killing all these people

Phil Donahue got on his show, gave a run down of the murders and said "This is a white guy. I guarantee it. The police need to be looking for a white guy". That began an entire avalanche of witnesses identifying the white guy and the police were running in circles as the murders continued.

It turned out to be two black guys, John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo. Donahue was jerked off the air faster than you can say "Racist". It was the end of his career.
