Former Dodger pitcher, Cy Young award winner and NL Rookie of The Year, Fernando Valenzuela has passed away at the age of 63.
No cause of death has been released as of yet.

Fernando Valenzuela, the Mexican-born phenom for the Los Angeles Dodgers who inspired “Fernandomania” while winning the NL Cy Young Award and Rookie of the Yea...

RIP. A great ball player.

90

So young. He entered the league with a meteoric flash is what I remember though didnt see him play too much as he was in the N.L. RIP.
His following here in Los Angeles in the 80"s was unlike anything I ever saw, and I remember seeing how people reacted to Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale when they pitched at Dodger stadium.

I was always amazed at how he looked up, taking his eye off the target, during his windup. He was a great one for sure. RIP big fellow.

At his prime, Fernando was the best in the game.

Tommy Lasorda burnt him out and he was never the same

He was something to watch. My whole family was glued to the set when he pitched against the Expos in the NL championship. R.I.P.

To young

I remember about questions of his age. Some speculated he was somewhat older than reported. He was a good pitcher anyway.

That was the way of things back then. A few arms like Ryan, Carlton and Clemens could take it. Most could not.
Fernando threw a wicked Screwball that put a strain on his arm.
Lasorda overworked him and shortened his career

The Dodgers should wear his number for one of the games. That would be a nice way to honor him.
