If you grew up shagging (not the UK meaning of the term) to the Temptations, you probably remember David Ruffin's vocals. Dennis Edwards took up lead in 1968 after Ruffin left the group. Edwards' first song as lead was Cloud Nine.
My personal favorite, however, is Papa Was a Rolling Stone, which George Michaels later covered.
Edwards also had a "slammin' " cool song in his solo career, Don't Look Any Further, which he performed with Saidah Garrett.
Dennis Edwards passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018, two days before what would have been his 75th birthday. Rest in Peace, Dennis Edwards.
