The disease formerly known as "GRID" (gay related immune difficiency) now morphed into AIDS is the only socially protected disease in history. You almost have to laugh at the overreaction to Covid contamination compared to the protection of the AIDS epidemic which was far more deadly. There was a time when government health related agencies tracked down every relationship of a syphilis patient but the opposite was done during the GRID epidemic.

When AIDS first became an 'epidemic' or widely noticeable on the American scene in the 1970's, I was teaching an adult Sunday School class and the issue came up. What we were getting on the news was the weirdos and nutjobs and lurid stories of anonymous gay sex orgies in San Francisco bath houses.

And the question came up naturally. Was AIDS God's retribution against the immoral gay community just as sexual immorality was the primary reason God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah?

After a bit we all pretty much agreed that no. AIDS wasn't God's punishment of the gays but was just a terrible disease primarily among gay people though heterosexuals could get it too if exposed.

We did go through a time of meticulous sanitary practices--the COVID restrictions were more severe but reminded me of that. A football or basketball injury resulting in bleeding would sideline that player just in case he might be infected. Things like that.

But as happened in a world with COVID, the world with AIDS, the people learned, modified their points of view, calmed down, and we learned to live with it without hysteria.

I believe President Trump 45 authorized more funding for AIDS research than any other President. Just now thought about that.

The misnomer "non-HIV AIDS" was invented in the early days of AIDS when very little was known about auto-immune diseases.

It says right there in the medical journal ICL is a type of disease caused by HPV, not HIV.

Make sure your children get the HPV vaccine. There are all kinds of cancers and diseases they can get if they don't.

I've read many links and the best scientists still cannot say definitively what causes ICL or AIDS for that matter. All they know is that if HIV is present, a person is at high risk for developing AIDS. Are there any other factors? They don't know. The point RFK Jr makes is more research is needed before any definitive positions are taken on it.

Which is my point in this discussion. Good science leaves the door open for new information, new data, new ways to understand things. Once somebody declares absolutely that this or that has to be this way and nothing else can be considered, you aren't dealing with science. You're dealing with dogma that will most likely be proved wanting at some time.
