The Ten Commandments of decent Campaigning and running the office...
1. Thou shall focus on your plan/agenda... which should be detailed.
2. Thou shall never demean your adversary for effect (small hands, dishonest Ted,...)
3. Thou shall respect campaign financing rules
4. Thou shall never tell a blatant lie (good luck with that... lol)
5. Thou shall demonstrate a minimum of empathy.
6. Thou shall never waste donors' money.
7. Thou shall not commit adultery (oh boy....)
8. Thou shall provide your tax returns when asked lol
9. Thou shall act presidential... or get coaching if you have no clue about acting that way lol.
10. Thou shall respect the institutions that support your country.
Some of these are good as guidelines. How exactly would you enforce this, culturally? Or some sort of law?
Putting a robot up there might do the job
But seriously, if you have to actually highlight 'common sense' rules like this for a 'presidential' race or actually running the country, something is definitely broken.
This should be a no-brainer for everyone... That's why 'rule of law' as expressed by the Mueller investigation is possibly the last hope for any decent future democratic republic and avoiding a blatant dictatorship.
I asked how do you propose we enforce this?
And yea some of this is common sense, but if the left doesn’t recognize why the right ignores trumps flaws, then it isn’t really common sense. This here is hypocritical and self serving. Trump came about because the last 3 GOP guys, who were all pretty much centrist progressive republicans, were being called the same things trump was being called, and yet there were no calls for civility from the left or the media. Bush was a fascist liar. McCain was a blatant racist. And Romney was a sexist, animal abuser, who wanted to push grandma off a cliff (even though he passed essientially the same thing as Obama care in his home state). Biden was out there telling black voters that Romney wanted to put them all back in chains. And they all sat back and just took it. The left pulled their gloves off long ago. The 3 mentioned guys stood in the corner with their gloves up absorbing these blows, following the same principles you laid out in the OP. The right wanted someone who was actually going to punch back, for better or worse that’s what trump does. This is coming from someone who did not vote for trump, nor currently likes him. And why is it ok for the left to call Ivanka a feckless c**t, and say phrases like Putin’s cockholster? That’s about as uncivil as one gets.
And where is the blantant dictatorship? Almost all of trumps executive actions were rolling back Obama’s executive actions. Trump gets blocked by judges ALL the time. Trump doesn’t get the policies he wants half the time despite having a gop controlled congress and senate. That’s the system of checks and balances working. I want even less power going to the executive branch, roll back executive orders to what they were meant to be, for things like picking out the silverware for hosting a foreign president, or declaring a casual Friday at the whitehouse, not singlehandedly implementing policy that needs to be voted on by the legislative branch.
And I’m all for rule of law. So why is it Trump gets heavily criticized for following the rule of law when it comes to immigration?? He was singlehandedly blamed for separating families for a ruling made by the 9th circuit court (very left leaning), during the Obama administration. You can’t pick and choose the rule of law that you like, that’s the opposite of rule of law. This whole alleged campaign finance fiasco on trumps end is the very same thing that Edwards got off for, paying off a mistress and not reporting it, so what does the rule of law say on that? Not to mention, Hillary clearly violating security clearance with the whole email server. That’s a cut and dry case for EVERYONE else but Hillary.
And if you’re so concerned about preserving our democratic republic, then you should be criticizing Antifa who is very open about their desire to tear down the “oppressive” democratic republic and constitution. As well as the media who gives them a pass, well because they’re against bigots so...
It’s threads like these that make me wish I could change my vote from maybe to NO.
