First it was Marjorie Taylor Greene, then Don Bacon, then Troy Nehls . . .

Now Elise Stefanik is leaving politics.

As difficult as it is to even imagine "polling USA" (and Synthaholic) getting the facts wrong, it turns out no . . .

Yes, Donald Trump nominated Elise Stefanik to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in November 2024, and she accepted the role. However, in March 2025, Trump asked her to withdraw her nomination to maintain the Republican Party's slim majority in the House of Representatives.
  • Trump officially nominated Stefanik in November 2024, stating she would be an "America First fighter" at the UN.
  • Stefanik was preparing for the role and had a confirmation hearing in January 2025, where she vowed to fight antisemitism and support Israel.
  • The nomination was withdrawn because, with the narrow five-seat GOP majority in the House, the administration did not want to risk a special election to fill her congressional seat.
  • Trump explained the decision as "politics 101," prioritizing keeping Stefanik in Congress for crucial votes.
  • He indicated she could be considered for a position in his administration in the future.

Is it too late for you to ask for the thread to be taken down?

They're politicians. They're not 'leaving' shit.
They can see the flaming dumpster that is the Trump Admin's trajectory down an overflowing shit ditch.
They are gonna get off at the nearest sandbar for a Heineken and a hot dog to watch it burn from a distance.
Politicians are the lowest form of life known, but like all lower life forms, they have excellent survival instincts.

Sounds like just a normal election cycle. :dunno:

As of Dec. 17, 2025, 43 incumbent members of the U.S. House of Representatives—19 Democrats and 24 Republicans—have announced that they will not seek re-election in the 2026 election cycle.

Of the 43 U.S. House incumbents who are not seeking re-election:

  • Eighteen—11 Democrats and seven Republicans—are retiring from public office.
  • Thirteen—seven Democrats and six Republicans—are running for the U.S. Senate.
  • Eleven—one Democrat and 10 Republicans—are running for governor.
  • One Republican is running for state attorney general.

Thank you for your low IQ insight, Gabbie. :rolleyes-41:

More than a tenth of the current U.S. Congress has already announced that it will not return after the 2026 midterm elections, marking one of the most significant periods of legislative turnover in modern political history. As of December 17, 2025, a total of 54 lawmakers have confirmed plans to leave their current roles, either through retirement or by pursuing other elected offices. This figure includes 10 senators and 44 members of the House of Representatives, reflecting substantial movement across both chambers of the legislative branch.
