Every Fall my dad would roll-out the bias snow tires and put them on whatever car we had at the time.

Of course they would already be mounted on rims.

Anyone else remember doing that?

Not much. My first car came with radials on the front with huge snow tires on the back.

Back in the days when all cars were RWD and few had posi-traction (or comparable), snow tires were a must in Winter. Twice a year you had to change your cars out for Summer and Winter tires.

Since that time, FWD and AWD have become ubiquitous AND tires provide much better traction in Winter conditions unless you buy high-performance Summer tires (which are standard on many high-performance cars), in which case you need to be very cautious about driving them in snow - or even rain.

My worst "snow car" was a GTO. You had to feather the clutch constantly to keep from breaking the wheels loose.

Ya sure, we swapped out the "summer" tires for "winter" tires every year. But then again I'm from upstate New York near Lake Champlain and we had real snow.

Down here they really don't make sense for the limited snow we get here in Virginia.

The smartest thing to do if snow and ice are coming is stock up, then keep you car in the driveway as Virginians don't really do snow/ice driving very well. So your driveway is the safe way to handle it.

We just let the cars sit under cover and use the 4X4 PU till the roads are OK.

We always had a 4X4 Jeep, Scout, Blazer, PU, or some such.

I bought a set of General "All-Season" tires for my car, those were not only horrible for snowy conditions, they were also very unsafe. After trying them one winter I realized that people get in accidents, and many have probably died, because of misleading claims like that. I still have a set of Firestone Firehawk All Season tires on my original wheels, and every winter I put them on for around 4-5 years (great in the snow), until I felt I got my money's worth from the General tires and replaced them.

With my Continental tires on now, I don't swap out any more, don't have to.

I have run snow tires for years. My wife runs Kedge Grip snow/ice all-terrains on her Blazer.

I had a 1971 Mercury Comet that weighed about 15 pounds with a full tank of gas. Driving in central Wisconsin. Snow tires? Lol.

I lived in many places that without dedicated snow tires with lake effect snow you are a moron
AWD was a blessing as well

I had two sets of OEM rims, changed out myself spring and fall, 30 minute job

Been using Nokian tires both summer, winter and truck for 20+ years

never had any problems, they are just damn good tires

I always run good AT3 tires on my truck year round.
Great in any weather. Semi aggressive tread, but still fairly quiet on the pavement.

I remember snow tires for our 76 Cutlass back in the day. That one wheel wonder, no posi, sucked in winter even with the snow tires.

Seemed like back then we were always helping push cars out of the snowbanks.

I use the Nokian ATP all-weather truck tire, smooth as glass but snowflake rated

it also has aramid fiber sidewalls, basically kevlar for puncture resistance and abrasion

Their AT truck tire which looks like a refined BF K03 has kevlar all around

their patented wear bar you can see is awesome, you can clearly see wear
and if you have any suspension or alignment issue

People in Finland are freaking smart.....

The Goodyear Wrangler has AT truck tires with Kevlar. Liked how they ran on a Jeep I used to own.

brother had those on his F350, wore fast and winter grip is SHIT
those are summer off road tires only, very hard compound

Nokian outpost AT is made in the USA in a new state of the art factory in TN
they blow away any wrangler unless you love swapping tires twice a year

brother got 3 hard years on his F350, replaced with the same
had BF before.......I talked him into it and he's 100% glad I did

for looking loud they actually roll smooth and quiet, that's a double bonus
