Read this article today and wondered what people here thought.

Is this a reasonable request and fit punishment for the lawyer not following the judge's demands, or is it a judge going too far in trying to exert power over his courtroom? I tend to think it is more the latter. It just doesn't seem reasonable to me that the judge can force people to recite the pledge and jail them if they do not. My knowledge of the law is admittedly slim, however, so perhaps there's nothing preventing it and the judge really is lord over his own little fiefdom. :)
