I'm studying Churchill and find that every book I find on him apart from Churchill: A study in failure" James simply eulogises him. Can anyone recommend anything that is more neutral, realistic, perhaps critical of him.

Looks to include varied perspectives. Personally I think he was a drunk racist imperialist who killed a lot of New Zealanders with ill considered decisions in wartime.

It seems to me that Churchill got a raw deal from the Brits after his leadership brought them through the dark days of WW2 and they dumped him after the War. Or do I have it wrong? Try finding a book critical of General Douglas MacArthur after fawning author William Manchester bestowed the ridiculous title "American Caesar" on the General. That's the way pop history works. Legends are easy to find but it takes work to uncover the truth. .

Most anything by Martin Gilbert on him.
