So go ahead raise minimum wage and see the below are WAITING to replace less competent entry level under 19 year olds...

Dawn of a robot revolution as army of machines escape the factory - FT.com

“Ten years ago it took five minutes for a robot just to recognise the object in front of it was a table,” says Alin Albu-Schaeffer, director of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). “Many aspects of robotics are now reaching a critical mass . . . service robotics is coming.”
Approximately 95,000 new professional service robots, worth some $17.1bn, are set to be installed for professional use between 2013 and 2015, according to the International Federation of Robotics. That excludes an estimated 22m domestic service robots – the autonomous vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers that are already becoming a familiar sight to consumers.

Business economics dictate lower the costs of providing goods or services increases profits.
Rising employee costs means exploring less expensive methods, i.e. robotics...
These companies building robots WANT higher minimum wages as these justify replacing human entry level employees.

Why autoworkers should be fearful... these lawnmowers don't need no stinking benefits!!!
"22 million domestic service robots – the autonomous vacuum cleaners and lawnmowers that are already becoming a familiar sight to consumers."

As defined by the current United Auto Worker contract negotiated with the "Big Five" (GM, Ford, Chrysler, and top parts makers Delphi and Visteon),
an auto "production worker" is a job description that covers anything from mowing grass to cleaning the toilets.

In the real world, these jobs would be outsourced to $8 an hour, no-benefit wage earners,
but on Planet Big Five, these jobs get the same wages as any auto line-worker:
an average $26 an hour ($60,000 a year) plus benefits that bring the company's total cost per worker to a staggering $65 an hour."[/I]

Yes we see the dehumanization of the means of production. In some ways it's beneficial and to others it's a scary synopsis. For myself, I find it most interesting and I want to study robotics and join in the new technology driving this innovation..

This is always the case.

But what about this statistic?
The youth labor force--16- to 24-year-olds working or actively looking for work—- 23.5 million
Employment and Unemployment Among Youth Summary

With your affectation for robotics, don't you care for the above 16 to 24, of which 1.6 million earn minimum or less and WILL be the ones most affected by robotics?

Look you "compassionate" raise the minimum are burying your heads in the sand.
Why do you think there are now 22 million cleaners, lawnmowers, dishwashers, waiters and with 95,000 now in production.. more to come?
Hey you want people to continue to become unemployed because they are unskilled in basic business tenets, be on time and be there is met by the
robot! Most unskilled entry level jobs really only require that.. and given higher starting minimum wages... those qualities can be replaced!
FACTS not compassionate bleatings of ignorant people like you!

I do feel sorry for them, but only because they do not educate themselves and learn to live in a changing world...

Well, maybe if our elected politicians stopped telling them they are victims of the rich and, instead, told them they can be proactive and learn to adapt to the changing world....they would......maybe?

100% agree with YOU!
THE ONLY reason ignorant people like most liberal politicians use this victimology is it worked in the past.
FORTUNATELY we are finding more and more people who are recognizing the simple fact that just being envious of the "rich" doesn't change their status!
DOING something about it will change the "victims" status!

Okay, so over in China they're paying factory workers 50 cents an hour or less.

That's what you get in the US eventually, when the so-called free market catches up with us.

Will you be satisfied then?

I do not envy the rish, they have more problems with more money that they receive, the suicide rate is high among rich folks compared to use common folk. I do enjoy living middle classly...

What's weird is how this prospect seems to make the author of this thread so happy.

It confirms what those of us that logically know the affect of raising minimum wages will be on the unskilled entry level people..i.e. will replace them!
It confirms the ignorance of minimum wage increase advocates.
Those favoring first have hyperbolically jumped conclusions there are tens of millions at minimum wage when in fact there are less the 3.3 million!
Of those 1.6 million between 16 to 19 years old and the least skilled will be the most likely replaced.

It confirms the gross incompetence of Obama/supporters and most of the people advocating raising the minimum wage!

Totally confirms that robots can replace simple business skills that the entry level only need have.. be on time and show up as scheduled!
Since the robots don't have any problems AND the cost i.e. raising the minimum wage lines cross... enter the robots!
All because idiots think they are helping tens of millions when in fact they will cause many of the 3 million at minimum wage to lose their jobs!

It confirms that without researching the facts and relying on "geez that just sounds so unfair"... most progressives are REGRESSIVE.. that want people to lose jobs!

You're already paying those people above the minimum wage, out of YOUR taxes, with food stamps, housing assistance, Medicaid, etc., etc., etc.,

so it's your own wallet you're ******* over by keeping the minimum wage low.

Raising the minimum wage just shifts the cost from you to the people who actually employ those workers.

I know, that's too deep for you...

No the truth is I want to see employed people NOT unemployed!
Raising the minimum wage to 10.80 will cause the unskilled entry level workers to be let go as the economics of replacing them with
robots wil happen.
Again.. you can't argue the facts.
1.6 million making minimum wage are 16 to 19 years old. Definitely unskilled and entry level almost ALL of them.
The can be replaced now with robots.
And then guess what happens! Dumb f...k they go on unemployment, they get welfare , they get free phones.. hell sounds like they've
got a step up right???
WRONG! Because all you've done is taken away ANY of their opportunities to advance beyond the unskilled entry level jobs which
again you totally are obviously ignorant of held by 16 to 19 years!
YOU in your idiotic "good intentions" create bad results because the economic lines are crossed.
At $15,000 ONE time purchase of a robot to sweep floors, cut grass wait on people... businesses won't need to continue to pay
for entry level employees! Not economical for them!

So you are arguing that people should always be paid shitty wages because if they are paid any more, service robots will take over?

I predict a lot of people on welfare if this happens.

Do you realize that you are saying that the US has two choices,

either be a country with a chronic unemployment problem because machines do all the work,

or be a country where a huge percentage of the population are the working poor.

...you know, faced with those grim alternatives, maybe what we really should be doing is putting more effort into curbing population growth...

that would mean birth control and family planning. the right doesn't like that either.

what the shill proposes is a steady flow of cheap labor, chronically un and under employed and desperate to feed the corporatist machine.

of course, the largest growth in the middle class occurred AFTER economic protections, like the FLSA were put in place.

but let's go back to dickensian england and poor houses to make the radical right happy.
