The man who hit the greatest home run in the history of baseball has passed on. Game 7, bottom of the 9th and the score is tied 9-9 and Yogi Berra playing left field could only watch the ball clear the wall. The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the heavily favored NY Yankees to win the 1960 World Series.

He also had what I believe to be the best, most sincere HOF speech ever.

Though "greatest home run in baseball history" is up for grabs, Maz was still a great player...RIP.

Babe's called shot?
Bobby Thomson?
Kirk Gibson?
Joe Carter?
Kirby Puckett?

None of those reach the level of a walk-off HR that won the World series. Babe`s "called shot" has been disputed, but Maz`s HR has never been. Ted Williams bitched about Maz entering the HOF, but he failed to recognize his 8 Golden Glove awards.

Maz's HR had a lot going for it. He wasn't known as a HR hitter. He even noted he wasn't trying to hit a HR. It was also against the highly favored Yankee's.

The only one that comes close IMO (and just my personal option) was Gibson's. The guy could barely walk. LOL.

Carter, Puckett, and Gibson all had WS walk-off winners...Carter's sealed the championship.

All opinion.

Been just as big playoff Homer's. Bernie Carbo/Fisk, that recent CLEVE SF G7 thriller where SF got lucky and they sent them off the field to regroup in the rain, the TOR LA series just concluded had some clutch HR. Bucky Dent at BOS, Molina at NYM G6. So many that I've seen off top of head.

might have hit the game winner but the pitcher from Idaho Vernon Law was the hero and MVP

Growing up in the suburbs of Cleveland in the days well before inter-league play, I missed out on the opportunity of seeing many National League star players such as Mazeroski and Ernie Banks. Saturdays were a busy time and so it was rare for me to spend time watching the game-of-the-week which offered the opportunity.

Mitch Williams and Fregosi. The relief staff sucked that whole series except for Roger Mason I believe. Anyway, Fregosi did not use him if it was him more as he stated Williams got them there. William had speed which he always had and no movement of the ball which has happened during his career during the series.
