The science says that getting the infection and recovering makes you immune because your immune system creates antibodies to the pathogen. This is why people don't keep getting COVID over and over and over and over again.

And masks won't protect you from a respiratory virus anyways. You need a respirator with an appropriate filter for that.

And the funny thing is, I know people who have spent more money on those useless masks than it would have cost them to buy a really nice powered air purifying respirator.

That's not what they are saying in general. While they are not quite sure if what these people get is a new infection or a flare up of the virus that already infected them, you can get it again.
