Today's vocabulary word is PRIMOGENITURE.
Primogeniture is the ancient aristocratic practice of one's inheritance and/or titles going to your firstborn by law. Think of the monarchy in England.
Our Founders did not like wealth concentrated in a few hands, and so they put into action plans which would disperse wealth like fine grains of sand, including eliminating primogeniture.
Well, 93 year old Rupert Murdoch is trying to bring primogeniture back.
Murdoch owns the media outlet known ironically as Fox "News", and the print equivalent, the rag known as the New York Post.
Rupert originally planned for his estate to be evenly divided amongst his four offspring.
However, his three youngest children are politically moderate, while his oldest son, Lachlan, is a rabid extremist who has run Fox "News" deep into a rabbit hole of insanity, lies, and delusions.
Rupert wants Lachlan to keep Fox News batshit crazy, and he does not want his three other children to be able to introduce any sanity or truth onto the airwaves or in print, so he is asking a court to give Lachlan full power over his media empire.
This has obvious implications for the American political conversation going forward.
And, yeah, this has some parallels to the HBO show Succession.
Here's Rupert with his fourth wife, who is a Russian immigrant and possible conduit for Putin:
She is 67 years old, and you know she's thinking, "Any day now...any day now...woo hoo!"
