The National Mediation Board (NMB) June 14 set in motion a ticking time bomb toward an economy-jolting national railroad shutdown within 90 days, its two Democratic members agreeing with rail labor—and over the remonstrance of carriers and the NMB’s lone Republican—that a voluntary agreement to amend unionized rail worker wages, benefits and work rules is not within reach.

I don't suspect it would last long if they did strike as POTUS would issue a national emergency EO.....But with the Tater in charge who the hell knows given that the dems seem to want to watch it all burn anyway.

Isn't it interesting how libturds will disagree with what you say but never present a cogent argument in rebuttal?

Interesting that the faux-conservatives think it is the Govt place to force people to go back to work.

Railroad workers have been forbidden from striking by law since 1926, moron. Maybe you should try reading. The PATCO workers were subject to the same law in the 80s. Fucking ignorant liberals.

And? The fact it started in the 20s makes it ok for the Fed Govt to force people to work?

It is cool if you agree with such things, just quit pretending to be a Conservative

I suppose you "feel" that the military should be able to strike as well, eh, commie?

Members of the military are Govt employees and they sign a contract and take an oath to be a part of it.

The same cannot be said for railroad workers.

It's OK. Just park all those Petroleum Guzzling locomotives and the planet will be saved! Then we can replace them all with solar-powered trains that run by day and stop at night or when there are clouds. Oh, they won't take the freight where you might want it - they'll just follow the sun! Southern states will be awash in consumer goods.

EVERY RR worker and air traffic controller in this nation is aware when they hire on that they are not allowed to strike due to the very nature of their job being necessary to the security and safety of the nation, oh brainless one. But I know, you think signing a contract is not binding and you should just be able to call for a "do over" Schools out, moron.

Look, I get it. You think it is awesome that the Fed Govt has the power to force people to work.

Not all of us agree. Its ok, it will not kill you

The workers striking isn't a crisis. If it's that important then pay them more. Otherwise let the jobs go unfilled. Pay up or shut up.
The law is what it is. There is a reason for why it was written the way it was. If you don't like the law, get your lawmaker to work to change it. Otherwise, you are just whining and committing the same crimes as you are claiming Trump committed. The NMB was put in place to mediate these disputes in lieu of striking due to the fact that a relatively small number of people could hold the country hostage to their strike action creating safety issues or a potential national security crises. WTF happened to common sense in this country. The "democracy" that you liberals keep harping about is predicated on issues of the common good while maintaining the rights of all concerned.

You are confused. It is not that the Fed Govt has the power to force people to work. These people are not slaves and they can QUIT with no recourse. The mechanism that has been put in place is MEDIATION. When these employees were hired they agreed to be bound by mediation by an objective arbitrator. They are NOT being forced to do anything. They are free to go to work for anyone else they please or stay and work and wait for the mediation process to play out and both parties are bound by that decision. They aren't three year olds. They should stand by the contracts they signed and quit throwing temper tantrums.
