“The idea of merging USAID and the State Department has been floated by nearly every administration since USAID was established by Congress in 1998,” Risch said on the Senate floor. “I’m supportive of the Trump administration’s efforts to reform and restructure the agency in a way that better serves U.S. national security interests.”

Sounds like it will reappear at some point, with the help of the GOP even.

Trump is only one man, as is Musk.

Hard to fight the entire system by your lonesome.

Congress needs to put USAID under State.
It will be very difficult to move away from State, divided government will be common going forward.

Your DOJ will be appointed to investigate the use of monies where there were clear conflicts of interest and money given to Americans.

If Trump is not above the law, nor is any other politician. Elon grabbed a bunch of sharp tech guys, programmers and data scientists I imagine to dissect the information and associate the spending to particular targets or individuals when some tried to disguise it.

I will make a prediction once USAID is gone: our counterintelligence operation will be greatly diminished if not hollowed out, China and our adversaries will fill the void, and US credibility wil be in the shitter.

.

Once all their records have been seized, I'm cool with enough of them being let back in the building. Being convinced of what "enough" is might be a different story. Maybe those who will actually show up for work will be enough.

IMO we need to see where USAID has accomplished anything productive. Aid should only cover things related to food, water, health, infrastructure.

finally a democrat admits China is an enemy of America !

The new DOJ has to put USAID under serious investigation.
There are implications that span from Ukraine to Wuhan.
Seismic rolls coming...

I imagine they will cut all the fat they can and then reinstate it.

Congress, both the House and Senate, will continue to fund it because the red helmets will say that they need the blue helmets to pass another omnibus/CR bill because, oh noes, it's gawna be a government shutdown if we don't.

That's what they did last year with it.

Final answer...
