It is always interesting to rewatch a movie you really liked many years ago.
Does the movie stand the test of time? And does your older self still like it?
The movie still works, but it has the same problems it did in 1991 - pretty atrocious acting, a lacking script - but despite that, everyone still likes it. It just works, even though on paper it shouldn't.
I wonder what does Reeves, himself, think of this movie. It is consistently rated in his top 5 movies of all time. Yet, it is also considered among his worst acting performances. I would think he wishes this wasn't true.

At any rate - the movie still works. It has an endearing quality to it that isn't easy to define. A good example of a similar movie where on paper it should have bombed is Venom. On paper, it should have bombed. But audiences loved it.

Most movies dont hold up. What was once new and fresh, becomes old and tiresome, so movie making and acting has morphed over the decades. There was a time when corny action hero lines werent corny. "Do you feel lucky, punk" worked because it was a new thing, but by the time Arnold Swarzenegger was saying "Chill out" as Mr Freeze in "Batman and Robin", it was played out.

Better than the junk splatter junk that passes for movies these days. What bothered me was the Reeves character jumping out of the plane and somehow catches up with the Swayze character in mid air. Is it possible?
